Our Mission: Celebrating the Avian Diversity of Northern Michigan
Welcome to bird watching in northern Michigan! Nestled in the heart of nature, our sanctuary is located just minutes from the shores of Lake Michigan. Our location serves as a haven for birds migrating. It also supports local nesters and year-round residents. Our mission is to educate and foster a deep appreciation for the diverse avian life that calls this region home. Thus, we began our journey to share what was going on in our part of the globe.
Discovering Birding with Binocs: A Journey Through Binoculars
Now that we wanted to educate others on bird watching in northern Michigan, how did we decide on our name? Our name, Birding with Binocs, was inspired by our early experiences observing birds through binoculars. We quickly discovered a diverse range of species passing through our area. Capturing their beauty and behavior up close fascinated us. We also realized you don’t need to have fancy equipment, just a good ole pair of binoculars will do! This excitement led us to want to share our bird watching in northern Michigan with others. We aim to create a community of bird enthusiasts who appreciate our local avian wildlife. Thus, we were ready to start capturing some beautiful images and listening to some amazing bird songs!
Seasonal Bird Migrations at our Northern Michigan Sanctuary
As we continue this journey of discovery, our binoculars became the gateway to an ever-expanding world of avian wonder. Every fall and spring, we noticed large flocks of birds gathering at our sanctuary. These birds would rest briefly, their calls echoing at dusk as they assembled again to continue their journey. The waves of diverse bird species fascinated us, revealing the rich biodiversity in our area. Using tools like BirdCast, Merlin, and eBird, we became eager to discover which birds would grace us with their presence next. This experience opened our eyes to the precious ecosystem we have and fueled our passion to share it with others, fostering education and awareness about the avian world around us.
